Updated for Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 · Build 4.10.191.2241

Star Citizen Fuel & Jump Range Tracker (Alpha 4.10)

Alpha 4.10 rewrites ship fuel from top to bottom, changing both your maximum quantum jump range and how often you pay for hydrogen refuelling. Pulled straight from the LIVE game files and compared line-by-line against LIVE 4.9, hydrogen fuel capacity is cut on 185 of the 198 ships in the game — frequently by 90–99% — while quantum fuel capacity is redistributed rather than cut: 75 ships gain and 101 lose. Every flyable ship's hydrogen and quantum fuel tank size is listed below, in SCU, for both patches — together with the maximum quantum jump range in gigametres each one buys you, so you can see how far your ship actually travels on a full tank before and after the patch.

Every figure below is a number of ships, not a percentage:

Star Citizen ship fuel capacities compared between Alpha 4.10 (build 4.10.191.2241) and Alpha 4.9 LIVE (build 4.9.188.23497). Hydrogen and quantum fuel tank capacity in SCU for all 198 flyable ships, the percentage change for each, and the resulting maximum quantum jump range in gigametres and quantum travel speed in kilometres per second under both patches.

Every quantum drive compared (58 components)

The table above is per SHIP; this one is per DRIVE. 50 of 58 quantum drives travel faster in 4.10 and 8 slower, cooldown changed on nearly all of them, and fuel burn per gigametre changed on 0 — which is why a ship's jump range still moves purely with its fuel tank.

Cruise speed on its own does not tell you how long a jump takes. Every drive pays its spool-up and cooldown in full before and after the trip whatever the distance, and that fixed overhead grew on 28 of 58 drives in 4.10. The last four columns settle it by pricing a real 100 Gm hop — spool + cruise + cooldown — under both patches: 51 drives complete it quicker in 4.10 and 7 take longer.

Star Citizen quantum drive components compared between Alpha 4.10 (build 4.10.191.2241) and Alpha 4.9 (build 4.9.188.23497): size, grade, quantum fuel burn per gigametre, travel speed in kilometres per second, cooldown and spool-up time.

What your ship could reach with a different drive (177 hulls)

The Range column on the Ships tab is the range of the drive CIG happens to fit as standard. Every quantum drive port in the game accepts exactly one size and nothing else, so the drives that would fit your hull are simply all the drives of that size (S1 has 20, S2 has 20, S3 has 15, S4 has 3) — and the range you could reach by swapping one in is a fact in the files, not an estimate. The typical hull travels 2.00× further on the same tank with the longest-range drive of its own size fitted, and only 12 of 177 ships already ship with the best drive they can take. Both builds are shown, so a drive retune is visible here even when your tank did not move.

Star Citizen quantum jump range by ship after a quantum drive swap: stock drive and its range in gigametres under Alpha 4.10, the longest-range drive that fits the same port, the range it gives in both Alpha 4.10 and Alpha 4.9, and the shortest range a legal drive would leave the hull with.

Port size is read from the drive fitted to it, which is exact: every quantum drive port in the game declares the same minimum and maximum size, so a hull's stock drive size is its port size. Range assumes only the drive changes — the tank is whatever that build gives the hull.

Refuelling: how many ships a tanker load covers (198 hulls)

Almost everything about fuel flow is unpublishable, because thruster burn and nozzle rates are in engine units the files never convert to SCU. Two figures escape that, because their units cancel, and both are on this tab. How many complete hydrogen refuels one tanker load covers is pod SCU divided by customer tank SCU — and since 4.10 cut hydrogen tanks across the fleet, that count rises sharply: one tanker load now covers 3.0× as many complete refuels as a load did on 4.9, because each customer holds so much less. The tankers were cut too: a Starfarer's stock pods hold 72 SCU in 4.10 against 120 SCU on 4.9 (-40%), so part of the change in these counts is the tanker shrinking rather than the customers. Scoop vs burn is the hull's own fuel intake divided by its full main-thruster burn, both in the same engine unit: at ×1.00 or better the ship generates hydrogen faster than its main engines drink it, which 12 of 198 hulls manage. 105 can scoop at all.

Star Citizen refuelling by ship under Alpha 4.10: hydrogen tank capacity in SCU, fuel scoop rate, scoop rate as a multiple of main-thruster fuel burn, and the number of complete hydrogen refuels a full tanker load covers, with the change from Alpha 4.9.

A tanker load is the ship's STOCK pods in that build (Starfarer 6×12 SCU = 72 SCU · Starfarer Gemini 6×12 SCU = 72 SCU · Starlite 2×12 SCU = 24 SCU), and each build is priced against its own pods. All 11 fuel pods in the game are size 2 and every pod port is size 2, so pods are interchangeable: fitting the largest (60 SCU) would take a Starfarer to 360 SCU and multiply every count in those columns by 5.0. Pods are excluded from the hydrogen column on the Ships tab — they are the cargo a tanker sells, not propellant for its own engines. Scoop rate and burn are in engine fuel units per second; their RATIO is exact, the rate on its own is not comparable to an SCU figure.

What these numbers mean

  • Figures are SCU of fuel, summed across every tank the ship's own default loadout fits — a Gladius carries two hydrogen tanks, a Carrack two. This is the same unit quantum drives measure their burn in (SCU per gigametre).
  • Range (Gm) is how far the ship can quantum travel on a full tank — quantum fuel capacity divided by the fitted drive's fuel burn per gigametre, both figures read from that patch's own files. It excludes acceleration and spool, so it is fuel-limited distance, not travel time. Every drive declares unlimited range of its own, which is why the tank is the whole constraint.
  • Fuel burn per gigametre is identical on all 63 drives, and no ship's stock drive was swapped. That is what makes the range column exact: range moves exactly in step with the quantum fuel column, so a hull whose tank doubled jumps twice as far.
  • Quantum travel SPEED changed on every drive in the game — and in both directions. 144 ships get faster, 33 slower, median +20%, with the biggest winner up +147%. The 890 Jump more than doubles (512,000 → 1,262,910 km/s) while the Gladius loses ground (190,000 → 161,411 km/s). Speed is a property of the drive, so it is unaffected by the tank changes — it decides how long a jump takes, not how far you can go.
  • 4.10 compresses jump range rather than cutting it. The gap between the shortest- and longest-legged ship narrows from 245x to 57x, while the median barely moves (143 → 154 Gm). Big ships gain the most.
  • There is no hydrogen equivalent of the range column, and that is a limit of the data, not an oversight. Thrusters state their burn as a rate per 10 kN of thrust in engine fuel units, and nothing in the files converts that to the SCU the tank is measured in — taken literally a Gladius would empty its 4.9 tank in about a second. What is exact: burn rates and intakes are unchanged, so flight endurance changes by the same percentage as the hydrogen column. A ship at −88% capacity has −88% flight time.
  • The Endurance idx columns are a comparison, not a clock. Each is hydrogen capacity divided by that hull's own full-throttle main-thruster burn, scaled so the typical 4.9 ship reads 100. Use it to rank ships against each other and to see the size of the 4.10 drop — the typical hull now reads about 17. It is deliberately not given in minutes: thruster burn is expressed in engine fuel units and the game files do not state how those convert to SCU, so any figure in minutes would be invented.
  • Thruster fuel burn did not change either, and neither did fuel intakes. On the raw data the hydrogen cut is a straight endurance nerf, not a rescale hidden behind cheaper consumption — expect to visit a refuelling station far more often.
  • Big haulers and explorers are the quantum winners — Carrack 10.6 → 20.9 SCU, C2/M2/A2 Hercules 6.6 → 20.9, A1/C1 Spirit 1.8 → 5.9. Light fighters lose a little (Gladius 1.3 → 0.6), and both Idris variants drop hard (120 → 31.5).
  • Every tank the ship carries is counted, and only tanks. A hull with more than one is summed — the Cutter Rambler's roof expedition tanks add 0.9 SCU of hydrogen and 0.9 SCU of quantum on top of the standard Cutter's. Detachable external fuel pods are excluded: the Starfarer's six 12 SCU pods and the Starlite's two are refuelling cargo it sells or transfers, not propellant for its own engines.
  • The Range column is the range of the drive CIG fitted, not the range your hull can reach. Quantum drive ports accept exactly one size, so every other drive of that size is a legal swap — and the Drive swap tab prices that out for both builds. The median hull gains 2.00× range from the longest-range drive of its own size, and 12 of 177 already carry the best drive they can take. Fit the worst drive that fits instead and the same hull loses range, which is why both ends are shown.
  • Speed is not the same as travel time. Spool-up and cooldown are paid in full on every jump regardless of distance, so the Quantum drives tab prices a 100 Gm hop (spool + cruise + cooldown) under both patches rather than leaving you to infer it from km/s. That total excludes the acceleration ramp: the records give both stage rates but not the speed the drive hands over between them, so the ramp cannot be integrated without inventing a number. Treat the time columns as a floor and a fair comparison, not a stopwatch.
  • Two refuelling figures survive the unit problem, and both are on the Refuelling tab. Refuels per tanker load is SCU divided by SCU, so it is absolute — and it moved hard, because 4.10's smaller tanks mean one load now covers 3.0× as many ships. Scoop vs burn divides the hull's intake by its main-thruster burn, both in the same engine unit, so the ratio is exact even though neither figure alone converts to SCU: 12 hulls out-scoop their own main engines, and 105 of 198 can scoop at all.
  • One row is a bug fix, not a nerf: the F8A Lightning's 100 SCU quantum tank on LIVE was a placeholder record borrowed from the Hornet. 4.10 gives it its own 0.9 SCU tank.

Star Citizen 4.10 fuel: common questions

How far can my ship quantum jump in 4.10?

The Range columns above answer it per ship, in gigametres on a full tank. The Carrack goes from 274 Gm to 541 Gm, the C2 Hercules from 171 to 541 Gm, while the Gladius drops from 70 to 32 Gm. Fuel burn per gigametre is unchanged on all 63 drives and no ship had its stock drive swapped, so range tracks tank size one-for-one. (Drive SPEED did change — see below — but speed decides how long a jump takes, not how far you can travel on a tank.) Across the fleet the spread narrows sharply, from 245x between the shortest and longest ranged ship down to 57x, with the median almost unmoved at 143 → 154 Gm. This is a compression of quantum range, not a nerf to it.

Is quantum travel faster in 4.10?

For most ships, yes. Quantum drive speed changed on every drive in the game: 144 ships travel faster, 33 slower, with a median change of +20%. The Carrack goes from 319,000 to 532,469 km/s and the 890 Jump from 512,000 to 1,262,910 km/s, while the Gladius drops from 190,000 to 161,411 km/s. Spool-up time also moved on most hulls. The Speed columns above list every ship's quantum cruise speed in km/s for both patches. Speed does not affect how far you can jump — that is the Range column, set by your fuel tank.

How long can I fly on hydrogen in 4.10?

In relative terms, exactly as long as the hydrogen column says: thruster burn rates and fuel intakes are identical to 4.9, so a ship whose tank fell 78% has 78% less flight time. An absolute figure in minutes is not published here because the game files do not support one — thrusters express burn per 10 kN of thrust in engine units with no stated conversion to the SCU the tank uses. Any "minutes of flight" number for 4.10 is an estimate from in-game testing, not something read from the patch.

Why does my hydrogen fuel run out so fast in 4.10?

Because the tanks are smaller, not because you burn faster. Hydrogen fuel capacity was cut on 185 of 198 ships — the Cutlass Black drops from 36.0 to 7.8 SCU, the Gladius from 13.5 to 1.6 SCU. Thruster fuel burn rates and fuel intakes are byte-for-byte identical to 4.9, so the practical effect is more frequent refuelling stops and a bigger role for the Starfarer, the Vulcan and hydrogen refuelling stations.

Which ships are unaffected by the 4.10 fuel changes?

11 ships come through untouched: Dragonfly, Dragonfly Star Kitten, Dragonfly Yellowjacket, HoverQuad, Nox, Nox Kue, Pulse, Pulse LX, X1, X1 Force, X1 Velocity. All of them are small hover, racing or utility craft with no quantum tank. The Aegis Javelin and Vanduul Mauler keep their hydrogen but do lose quantum fuel. Use the "Not changed at all" filter above to list them.

Which quantum drive gives my ship the longest jump range in 4.10?

The Drive swap tab answers it per hull, for both patches. Every quantum drive port in the game declares one size and accepts nothing else, so your options are exactly the drives of your port's size — and the one that flies furthest is the one with the lowest quantum fuel burn per gigametre, not the fastest one. Fitting it is worth a median 2.00× more range across the fleet on the same tank, and only 12 of 177 ships already carry the best drive they can take. The tab lists your stock drive and its range, the longest-range drive that fits and its range in 4.10 and 4.9, and the shortest range a legal drive would leave you with.

How long does a quantum jump take in 4.10?

Longer than cruise speed alone suggests, because spool-up and cooldown are charged on every jump no matter how short. The Quantum drives tab prices a 100 Gm hop end to end — spool + cruise + cooldown — for both patches: 51 drives do it quicker in 4.10, 7 take longer, and the fixed overhead grew on 28 of 58 drives. It excludes the acceleration ramp, which the game files describe only partially, so it is a floor rather than a stopwatch reading.

How many ships can a Starfarer refuel in 4.10?

Far more than on 4.9, and the Refuelling tab gives the count for every hull in the game. A tanker's pods and a customer's tank are both measured in SCU, so this is one of the very few fuel figures that is absolute rather than a ratio. Because 4.10 cut hydrogen capacity fleet-wide, one load now covers 3.0× as many complete refuels as the same load did on 4.9. The counts shown are for stock pods; all 11 pods in the game are the same size and any pod fits any pod port, so a full swap to the largest multiplies them again.

Where does this fuel data come from?

Directly from the Star Citizen client's own data files — LIVE build 4.10.191.2241 and LIVE build 4.9.188.23497, read out and compared ship by ship. Nothing here is copied from a wiki or estimated from in-game readouts, and each figure is the sum of the fuel tanks actually fitted to that ship's default loadout.
