Welcome to the ‘Verse
Whether you’re a fresh recruit or a long-term lurker finally ready to pull the trigger — welcome to the ‘Verse. In this community, we focus on the Citizen experience: someone who isn’t just here to grind, but to master the mechanics, explore the loops, and carve out their own path.
Star Citizen is a persistent sandbox space MMO developed by Cloud Imperium Games — one of the most ambitious games ever made. Players can fly hundreds of ships, trade cargo, mine ore, salvage wrecks, fight in space combat, and explore two star systems: Stanton and Pyro. It is currently in Alpha 4.7.2 — actively playable with regular updates.
Squadron 42 is the standalone single-player campaign set in the same universe — currently in development, not yet released.
Star Citizen is not on Steam, not available on PS5 or console, and may or may not work properly on macOS or Linux from patch to patch. It safest to play on Windows, for the moment practically making it a PC exclusive downloaded through the RSI Launcher from robertsspaceindustries.com. There is no official Star Citizen release date — development continues under a live Alpha model.
PROGRESSION WIPES: We are in an Alpha state. Your most valuable asset isn’t your aUEC balance — it’s your in-game experience and Situational Awareness. Treat each patch like a new season: what you own might disappear, but what you know makes you a deadlier pilot and citizen of the verse.
BUGS ARE STANDARD: Expect desync, server crashes, occasional broken mechanics & features, and UI glitches — these are normal operating conditions in an Alpha environment. The tips below will help you work around the most common ones.
Selecting a Game Package
Before you step foot in the ‘Verse, you need a ship. Only Starter Packages grant actual game access. Standalone ships are add-ons for players who already own a package. Your first hull will be your daily driver for the first several hours — choose wisely.
Each ship below has been reviewed in the 4.7 Ultimate Beginner Guide. Timestamps link directly to that section of the video.
The CCU system lets you upgrade your starter ship to a more expensive hull at the price difference — not the full ship cost. If you buy an Aurora today, you can later CCU up to a Cutlass Black for the delta cost. This is the most capital-efficient upgrade path and explained at 07:00 in the guide.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A STARTER
The most expensive Star Citizen ships — flagships like the Idris, Polaris, and Javelin — cost thousands of real dollars and are purchased through the RSI Pledge Store or earned in game normally. You do not need these to enjoy the game or to make progress. For mid-tier upgrades beyond starter ships, the Drake Corsair is one of the most popular multi-crew explorer upgrades — it offers excellent range, crew capacity, and versatility for Pyro operations. The CCU system lets you upgrade your current ship at the price difference, not the full cost.
Purchasing & Installing SC
Once you’ve selected your hull, follow this exact sequence to secure your account and initialize the client. Deviation from this protocol often leads to purchasing the wrong items or severe performance degradation.
Selecting a Home Location
After character creation, you must authorize a Primary Residence. This is your initial spawn point and the persistent storage hub for all your ships, gear, and pledge items. Warning: This choice is locked until the next major patch cycle.
At 09:30 in the video, CMDR Quattro covers the best starting system. New players should begin in Stanton — it is more stable, better populated for trading, and has the most comprehensive infrastructure. Pyro offers more dangerous gameplay loops for experienced pilots.
STANTON LANDING ZONE DIRECTORY
Because Hurston sits near the sun at the center of the Stanton system, travel times to any other planet are significantly reduced. Spend less time in Quantum and more time in the action. TEASA Spaceport is one of the most intuitive and expansive ports in the game, and the New Deal Dealership gives you direct access to purchasing ships with in-game aUEC from day one.
Completing the Tutorial
Completing the tutorial grants 45,000 aUEC. Stacked with your 50k referral bonus, you begin with 95,000 aUEC — enough for high-tier gear, med-pens, and early repairs without grinding.
Invictus Launch Week is Star Citizen’s annual military ship showcase — and the biggest Free Fly event of the year. During Invictus, anyone can create a free RSI account and play Star Citizen at no cost, with daily ship rotations letting you try military vessels before committing. If you’re reading this during the event window, claim your free access here. It’s the best time to try before you buy.
ESSENTIAL FIELD TIPS // FIRST HOUR SURVIVAL
Press U for general power, then I to start engines and thrusters. If you can’t take off or control your ship, open the MFD power management screen and confirm power is reaching your engines.
4.7 SURVIVAL FAQ
What Now? Station Operations
Congratulations, Citizen. You have cleared the tutorial and reached orbital space. Your first priority is to stabilize your presence at Everus Harbor — this bypasses the long atmospheric exit times of Lorville and puts you seconds from action.
CLINIC TRANSFER MANDATORY: Immediately locate the Clinic on the station’s Galleria or Cargo deck. Use the Insurance Terminals to “Transfer Imprint” to this facility. If you die, you will respawn at the station — not back in Lorville. This is the single most important action after landing. See 47:51 in the video.
ADVANCED SYSTEMS // CLICK TO EXPAND
Medical 2.0 significantly changes how injuries and healing work. The old “use a med-pen to heal everything” approach no longer works. Different injury tiers require different treatment methods.
The Tier 0 Crafting system introduces blueprint-based item creation to Star Citizen. This is the foundation for player-driven manufacturing in future patches.
Pyro is a lawless system with significantly higher risk than Stanton. Only travel there once you have stable income, good gear, and confident flight skills.
INDUSTRY LOOP BREAKDOWN
Do not try to save for a 2-million aUEC ship immediately. Complete two Hauling missions for ~100,000 aUEC, then rent a Prospector or RAFT at Vantage Rentals (Lorville) for ~70,000 aUEC/day. A single day of dedicated mining or heavy hauling in a rented ship can net 500,000+ aUEC — exponentially speeding up your path to permanent ship ownership. Full progression breakdown at 1:00:22.
If you commit crimes (illegal cargo, attacking players in monitored space) your ship can be impounded by Crusader Security. To retrieve an impounded ship, go to an ASOP terminal and pay the impound fine — costs scale with your crime stat level. The easiest way to avoid impound is to stay in Stanton’s safe zones until you understand the legal system, and never carry stolen cargo into a secure landing zone.
Alpha 4.7.2 introduced Tier 0 Crafting — blueprint-based item manufacturing. Blueprints drop in the world, appear at kiosks, or can be traded between players. Each blueprint specifies the required raw materials and quantities. Use the Blueprint Finder tool on this site to locate any blueprint and plan your crafting routes before grinding materials.
Once you’ve accumulated enough aUEC, head to New Deal Shipyard in Lorville for the widest selection of in-game purchasable ships. For premium or limited ships, check the Pledge Store and use the CCU system. Full ship dealer guide at 1:05:05.
Controls Reference
Default keybinds sourced from the Star Citizen Wiki — Guide:Controls. The game uses almost every key multiple times across three control modes: On Foot, Flight, and EVA. All binds can be rebound via ESC → Options → Key Bindings.
Export your custom layout at any time via the in-game console: pp_rebindkeys export all mybindings — saves an XML file you can back up or share with other players.
Controls data sourced from the Star Citizen Wiki — Guide:Controls (last updated March 2025). For the latest changes always check in-game via ESC → Options → Key Bindings, as patches may alter defaults.
